Supported macOS Versions
Our Xcloud product has reached the end of supported macOS versions with macOS Monterey (12.x). Starting macOS Ventura (13.x) Xcloud instanced don't boot anymore. Therefore we kindly ask our customers not to upgrade to Ventura! If you discover this article later, please get in touch with our support so that we can restore your instance from the backup.
Xcloud Successor
Since we have anticipated this point in time for a long time, we have built a successor service for Xcloud. We call it Mac Bare Metal. There are no longer virtual macOS instances but physical, dedicated macOS instances, powered by genuine Apple Mac mini and Studio hardware. The big advantage of Mac Bare Metal compared to Xcloud, besides massively better performance, is that every macOS version is supported, which supports the underlying Mac hardware. For our existing Xcloud customers who are interested in switching to the Mac Bare Metal service, we offer one month free of charge to replace the current instance(s) with a Mac Bare Metal instance(s). Please contact our support if you are interested.
Upgrade process
Upgrading the XCLOUD instance remotely is done the same way as you do it with a physical Mac device: just download the software update via the Mac App Store and start the upgrade process using your Apple-ID.
Please note:
- Your instance will go offline for up to 2 hours during the upgrade process (the time depends on the specs of your instance). It’s important NOT to power-off/on your machine during this time.
- You can check the upgrade status via the HTML5 console in the Customer Portal. Sometimes it might take a few minutes, to see the console.
- As soon as the upgrade finishes you will be able to connect normally again
